I realized a few months back that I was becoming a real nerd about this health stuff…

About 6 weeks ago, I was getting out of the car and asked my friend if he wanted a bottle of water, since I had stopped to get one myself. He promptly turned down my offer and asked if he could have a Coke – my answer – “Do you know how much sugar is in that Coke? “

He insisted on his choice and I left the car thinking that he was moron. I try not to judge people as you can tell. I went in grabbed my Fiji water, yes Fiji water, it tastes kinda like coconut water, and then grabbed his 1 liter Coke. I proceeded passed all of the other great beautiful drinks including the Orange Fanta – yum, Grape Soda – to die for, and the Ginger Ale - just fantastic. I got to the counter to pay, lo and behold an Almond Mars bar and a family sized Twix tried to jump on to the counter so I could pay for them too, but I resisted that urge as well.

I have always had a sweet tooth. ALWAYS. Only recently have I been successful in training my pallette and my mind to resist these unwanted advances from tasty treats. This is where the results of my efforts are proven; I am able to walk by those delicious soft drinks – WIN, I stopped those chocolate bars from climbing on to the counter – WIN. Before I knew it, I was outside and already won 10 internal battles over food and my prize was a bottle of water {…and a reminder that I can do anything}. Since that day I have been keeping score, keeping track of how many wins I can rack up in a day.

This is my way of getting through some of life’s difficult health and eating choices. It’s not perfect, but I like to win and I hate to lose. Competition is in me and I can’t think of any better way to help me get healthier and get fit.

Perhaps in my next post I will tell you what exactly I am doing all of this for…WIN!

Iran, You and Your Unrealized Power

As the world watches what is happening over in Iran, I am reminded of how powerful and courageous our generation has really become.  I know that most of you know this, but it is quite extraordinary how technology and the will of young people can challenge long standing institutions. Will the young (and old) people [...]
